Stephen Balch, president of the National Association of Scholars,
was awarded a National Humanities Medal at a White House ceremony on November
15, 2007. In presenting the award, President George W. Bush said the medal was
for:
“his leadership and advocacy upholding the noblest traditions of higher
education. His work on behalf of scholarship and a free society has made him a
proponent of reform and a champion of excellence at our nation’s universities.”
Stephen Balch is a SAFS member and was our keynote speaker at the Annual General Meeting, May, 2005.
